Meeting the Boss

We had a nice evening reception tonight so that we could be formally introduced to our respective bosses. When I got to the banquet room, I didn’t feel nervous at all.. I was just hot, sweaty, hungry and thirsty. It had rained earlier today (with lots of thunder, too) and so by the time mid afternoon hit, it was extremely humid and gross.
The spread was really yummie and soon the place started to fill up. Some employers were not able to attend the reception, and I thought that mine hadn’t showed up either, until he was introduced during one of the speeches! It turns out that the lawyer I’ll be working with (who deals with trademarks and patents, yay!), is also teaching the Patent course we’ll be taking starting next week! AND! The most awesome part is that TMI’s office is located in Roppongi Hills, where the classes will be held (in my boss’ office). So, I don’t need to even hit rush hour to go to class. =)
Anyway, I was really nervous to meet him, but he was a really nice man. He gave me very very long directions on how to get to the building and to the right floor. And then he told me that on Monday morning, I’d have to be in before 9:30 and that I’d have to introduce myself during a company-wide meeting! uhh yeah, I have issues speaking in front of the 60 people in my class.. you can’t imagine the stage fright I’ll be feeling talking in front of 244!!
I really really really feel like I was one of the lucky ones, being placed in this company. And I’m quite curious to know how Santa Clara’s placement system works because I can’t help but wonder why TMI picked me. There are just other people in the class who are a lot more qualified (read: actually have their technical degrees) than I am.
But, whatever it was, I’ll be eternally grateful for this opportunity. And you better believe that I’m gonna make the most of it! =)
