The Forbidden City, a Complete Bust

I went out with Christine and a couple of her out-of-town friends last night to a club called the Forbidden City in Hollywood. I actually wasn’t sure, until the very last minute, that I wanted to go because I just wasn’t in the mood to be social. I just wanted to stay home, under my covers, and watch girlie movies. (yeah - you know)
But then I felt guilty for flaking out, since I had already promised her I would go.. so off I went.
We ate dinner at Luknam’s restaurant - my suggestion. We tried some of my old favorites and some new dishes which were heaven. It was a really good meal. Then, we were off to the Forbidden City.
I had looked up the site before I went and was hesitant to go. It seemed like a pretty seedy (very raunchy) place, but thought it’d be good to try something new.
I knew that parking was $20 at the club (what a rip!), so I decided to shop around. Christine and her friends were in a separate car, so I followed them into a parking lot across the street. They decided to park there, but when the guy told me $15, I turned myself around and prepared to leave. As I was ready to turn out of the lot, one of the guys working there asked me if I wanted free parking. I was hesitant at first, thinking… what does he want in exchange for this “free” parking. But it turns out that there was a spot on the street that had freed up! woo hoo :) So, I really lucked out.
I didn’t like the vibe of the club at all… too Hollywood for me. The place was really fragmented and all the rooms were regulated. For example, if you wanted to get on the dance floor, you had to have been given a green sticker bracelet that said VIP (how LAME is that!). Luckily we had them since we were on Natalie’s guestlist ;) But if you were in one room and wanted to go out to their patio, you had to wait in line! It was so lame. The music also sucked. The atmosphere sucked. The only good thing was they made their drinks pretty well.
Overall, the night was a bust.
After we left the Forbidden City, Christine and her two friends wanted to go to a lounge/bar, but I was just too tired to go and I had a long drive ahead of me so I just made my way home.
If you’re looking for a good night out in Hollywood, stay away from the Forbidden City and instead make your way further down Hollywood to Highlands. We had a LOT more fun there.
